There is NOTHING
sexier than a woman that can tame herself and accomplish what she sets out to
do, when she sets out to do it!
I have heard many
times before that it is not in your thought about a thing as much as what is in
your action about a thing. Hope that
didn't go over your head! There is ONE thing MANY of us have in common...this
one thing is the difference between why successful people are where they are
and why others only dream of success.
Here's a story about
a free thinking little girl growing into her limiting mentality.
There's a little girl who sits in her room and
she is thinking about a million things she can do in that little imagination of
hers, but heaven knows she will never experience even close to half of what she
see's! The key is she doesn’t know that and that's
the beauty of it. She even writes it down or "draws" what's in her
imagination. She grows up to be
this beautiful woman swimming in the professional sea of jobs, and has gotten
caught in the rat race. Her imagination is now a thing of the past and all she
has time to do, when she is not trying to have a social life, is sleep and
dream. Those few moments before bed she
is laying there because she knows she has to get up in a few hours and go work
for "the wo(man)" again. She
sits in the shower and imagines all of the things the MUST do that she has
procrastinated on. She stands there and
she thinks of all of the things she WANTS to do topped with the guilt of not
having done what she knows she needs to be doing. She decides for the 50th time she will write
her goals down and accomplish them because she no longer desires to work for
anyone else. Then she starts applying
what she has been dreaming of in her mind, but for some reason she just feels
so overwhelmed and feels like she is spinning her wheels because all of her
ideas and application of them are scattered.
She is busy being unproductive.
So in her adjustment to get back on track she notices that maybe she
should write her goals down, that way she can have a plan and stick to it! Ah!
Finally, the key to success! Writing down her goals!!
A year later she
reassesses her goals and realized she has only completed one goal and actually
completed it just because it was a simple easy to reach goal. Her more important goals were not even close
to being accomplished. She started to
wonder why is it that she can never get things done no matter how hard she
tries! In her frustration she seeks a mentor who
happened to be a very successful person
in her desired field of business. He asked her to dig deep and figure
out why she has not accomplished them, was it lack of desire, lack of action,
un-realistic goals, vague goals, or were they just simply dreams written on
paper and sat to the side with a wish that it will come true one day? She realized it was only one of those things
and that thing is only true because of her distractions. Every time she attempted to put one of her
action plans in place she kept getting distracted by unknown distractions. She did not even realize she was being
distracted. She didn’t realize
attempting to have a social life was just one of her distractions. She worked so hard she did not see anything
wrong with desiring to go out with her friends a few times a month.
Her mentor explained
to her that the problem was that she wasn't making her goals a priority. In her free time from working on a job
totally un-related to her goals she was sleeping, handling daily
responsibilities, focusing on trying to have a social life and/or spending time
with her loved ones and squeezing in her goals whenever possible.
After applying what
he taught her for only just one year, she was able to quit her job and focus
fully on her business and 5 years later she was one of the most successful
women in her line of business, winning awards and her brand 10 years later, is
known all over the world for it's prestigious base.
This was somewhat
based off of a true story, however, there are more details to it than just
writing down your goals and prioritizing them, but sticking to them is
key. There is an awesome book written by
a really good friend of mine, Renee Galloway called DONE! I think it is an
excellent book on prioritizing and it also outlines one of the greatest goal
writing methods, in my opinion, called S.M.A.R.T. Goals. They have literally helped me keep track and
realistically set goals because I know we all at some point or another write
goals too big for our breeches. It's discouraging to set goals only to fail due
to improper planning or unrealistic time frames without the necessary action
steps. My favorite phrase on this
subject is " Write the goal, write the plan, forget the goal, and work the
plan!"
Here's a link on how to set smart goals
